Bone bruise & cartilage damage

7-year-old Connemara gelding, used for hunting and Pony Club activities, acute onset lameness with radiocarpal joint effusion.
  • 7-year-old Connemara gelding, used for hunting and Pony Club activities
  • Acute onset left forelimb lameness with radiocarpal joint effusion (September 2018)
  • Distal nerve blocks negative but lameness abolished following intra-articular block of the radiocarpal joint.
  • Radiographs inconclusive
  • MRI showed a bone bruise and damage to the cartilage
  • Treatment with steroid gave a short lived improvement
  • Rested for three months and then intra-articular injection of Arthramid® Vet
  • Summer 2019 X-rays show some arthritic changes in the joint but he is doing well clinically
